Medicines in School

In line with our policy, the school can undertake to administer certain medications within a limited number of circumstances, such as administration more than three times per day, or at specified times (e.g. before food).  We have limited storage space, so where possible, we ask that medicines are administrated outside of school.

We do not allow pupils to carry and administer their own medication, and all medication must be handed to and collected from the school office.  The only exception to this is asthma medication which is is kept close to the pupils in the classroom area, but strictly monitored by staff to prevent misuse.

Please note that in the event of a short-term medically diagnosed condition requiring the use of painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (e.g. broken limb), we no longer require the painkillers to be prescribed by a GP, and can administer over the counter medicines.

If your child’s condition is likely to be longer than a few days, then please contact the school office for further help and advice.
